| Jakub Smrz y seras sur une Aprilia.
SPLITLATH Redmond new arrival Jakub Smrz is raring to go ahead of his MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship debut at the TT Circuit Assen this weekend. Kuba will make his first outing on the team’s Aprilia RSV4 machine at one of his favourite circuits, and the place where he claimed his first WSB podium. He will be joined this weekend by Australian Troy Herfoss, who makes his second appearance for the team as countryman Mark Aitchison continues to recover from his tricky finger injury. For Kuba, it will be a busy weekend where he will need to get to grips with a brand new bike. But he has previous experience riding an Aprilia on the WSB stage, and admits that for him, Assen is the perfect place to start with his new team. “It is one of my favourite tracks where I have many nice moments to remember like my first WSB podium and few first row starts. I think that Assen is the best track where we can start,” he revealed. “I rode an Aprilia for four races in WSB and have also done some testing with my father’s team’s Superstock bike. I liked it a lot and made a few good results with it, but at the moment it’s hard to say if this experience will be useful. “The BSB bike is very different to the ones I’ve ridden before and unfortunately we have not had a chance to test the Splitlath Redmond bike before this weekend, so everything is going to be new. “Until we arrive it’s hard to have any expectations. Of course I will have some advantage in Assen because I know the track really well and have always been fast there. At the moment the main goal is to find a good feeling and to improve practice by practice and work hard to get as close to the top as possible.” While the Czech Republic rider has a lot of WSB experience under his belt, he admits arriving in BSB is something completely new, and a challenge he can’t wait to begin. “For sure, I am very excited for this new experience and I know this is a difficult championship with many fast riders. Whenever I have had time I have always watched BSB races and I am happy to be joining all those guys. “Already, before coming to my first BSB event, I feel very well and happy with my new team and I can’t wait to meet all of them and begin our work together.” Herfoss is another rider who knows his way around Assen very well, and as he prepares for his second round with the Splitlath Redmond team, he will be building on his Donington Park experience to get his machine higher up the order at a track he loves. “This weekend I think it’s possible to be a lot higher placed, and depending on how I adapt to the bike this time I would like to think I can ride into the top 10,” he said. “At this track I have been fast all year and not everyone has tested here. Also, having Kuba beside me can only be a help and motivation. “Mostly I'm just appreciative that the team has given me another opportunity to work with them again.” |

| Post: #1 Historic Assen is Next Challenge for Samsung Honda [Image: samsunghondahdr.jpg]
The Samsung Honda team are preparing for the opening round of the British Superbike Championship Showdown as the title battle reaches mainland Europe with the first event at the legendary TT Circuit Assen.
Michael Laverty currently lies fourth in the overall standings and is aiming for success in a bid to close the deficit to his title rivals. Laverty arrives at the circuit 21 points adrift of standings leader Tommy Hill and is seeking success at the first ever BSB event at the hallowed Dutch circuit. Jon Kirkham is also bidding to continue building on his previous performances as he targets a strong end to the season.
Michael Laverty:
“I am sure there isn’t a racer in the world that would turn down the chance to race at Assen and I love the circuit. It is going to be a level playing field, as in the UK everyone has various experiences of circuits whereas at Assen we all start the same. At Donington we took a step forward and were closer to winning again and now we just need to do some fine tuning for Assen.
“If you look back at the last few rounds Shakey did the double at Brands Hatch, Tommy had the double at Cadwell Park and then Josh did it at Donington and I hope that now it will be out turn at Assen. We are all riding at the top of our game and now it is the Showdown third places are not enough, we need wins. I am looking forward to taking our circus to Europe and putting on a great show, we are pumped up for this event and the talking stops now.”
Jon Kirkham:
“I am really looking forward to going to Assen this weekend. It’s a real fast, flowing track and on those kind of sections at Donington that was where we were strong so that puts us in good stead. I have qualified well at the last two rounds but just struggled in the races. We have had a test at the circuit though so we know what we need to do straight away and it should be a brilliant weekend.”
Havier Beltran, Team Manager:
“Heading into the Showdown we now arrive at a crucial part of the season and expectations are high for the whole team. We know that every point counts and that we can challenge at the front of the field; at the same time, Assen being a new track could throw up some new scenarios and this world class circuit could shake things up. The Samsung Honda team are all looking forward to the new challenge and we hope that we can start the Showdown in the strongest possible way.” |

| The historic venue of Assen is the venue for round ten of the 2012 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship and the Rapid Solicitors Racing Team are heading over to Holland in confident mood.
Having missed the last couple of rounds due to sustaining a shoulder injury, Shane 'Shakey' Byrne will start the first of the three 'Showdown' meetings with all to play for as he holds third place in the standings just 12 points down on series leader Tommy Hill.
The former double BSB champion from the Isle of Sheppey tested at Snetterton yesterday and was happy enough with his progress so is looking to add to his four wins so far this season in his quest to add to his British Superbike titles of 2003 and 2008.
Shakey is one of the most experienced riders around the Dutch track having ridden in four World Superbike Championship races there during 2009 and 2010 for Sterilgarda Ducati, scoring two eighths, a ninth and an 11th place finish, and previous to that, in 2004, rode for the MS Aprilia MotoGP Team but retired in the race after a strong showing in practice.
Also with good Assen experience is team-mate Stuart Easton who bounced back from his mid season injury problems with a superb pair of results at Donington Park in the last round. The former British Supersport Champion claimed a seventh in race one with a fourth in race two and is looking to end the season on a high for the Penrith-based team.
The Scotsman from Hawick scored a tenth place finish aboard a 749cc Ducati for the SC Manila Grace in the World Supersport Championship race back in 2006 and more recently has World Superbike Championship experience around Assen when he deputised for the injured Broc Parkes on the factory Kawasaki in 2009 and was placed 18th in the opening race.
Whereas Byrne will be looking towards the British Superbike Championship as one of the six designated 'Title Fighters', whereby he had qualified for the Showdown stage prior to his accident at Cadwell Park, Easton has his eyes firmly set on the BSB Rider's Cup which will go to the rider who finishes as best of the rest and currently, he holds fifth position, just 27 points off the top spot.
Shane Byrne:
"I love Assen and have plenty of experience in both MotoGP and WSB so for me it's the ideal place to start the Showdown. My shoulder is getting better all the time and I had a good run out around Snetterton yesterday so hopefully it will be OK once we get out on track. Assen is a very physically demanding track and it won't be easy but I'll be doing my best. My initial aim is to do the best job I possibly can this weekend and by Silverstone and Brands Hatch, I should be a lot stronger in those final two rounds. I'm really looking forward to racing at Assen as I think it will be one of the best meetings of the year so I can't wait to get started."
Stuart Easton:
"It was good to get back to some decent results at Donington and I'm hoping we can continue that momentum into Assen. It's a track I've ridden at a couple of times before and I really enjoy the flowing nature so I'm looking forward to it. No one has lots of track time around there so it could spring a few surprises and it's good to race somewhere a bit different. I'll be doing my best to get a pair of good results for my Rider's Cup aspirations and hopefully I can take a few points off Shakey's rivals to help him in the Showdown." |

| American PJ Jacobsen will make his British Supersport debut this weekend at Assen in the Netherlands aboard a Tyco Suzuki GSX-R600. The 18-year-old New Yorker has been in the news since his Superstock debut in Tyco Suzuki livery back in July; and following his victory at Donington Park two weeks ago Team Manager Philip Neill has rubber-stamped his request to finally race the team's 2011 British Championship-winning GSX-R600. Jacobsen will not test his number #99 Tyco Suzuki GSX-R600 - that Alastair Seeley raced to the top-step of the British Championship podium - before the opening session at Assen on Friday, but with previous circuit experience and working with the current British Supersport Championship-winning team, the young American is confident of putting in a solid performance. [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir cette image]PJ Jacobsen: "I'm really pumped to be getting to ride the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R600. It's a proven Championship-winning bike and, having compared some lap times from last year, I know the bike is up to the job; and the rest is just down to me. Donington was great for everyone, but Assen will be a whole new experience. I'm with a great team and a great bunch of guys, who I'm having a lot of fun with, so I just can't wait to get on the gas!" Philip Neill - Team Manager: "After a great weekend at Donington with three wins, which included PJ's superb performance in the Superstock class, it obviously generated an immediate discussion on his future within our team. "PJ's initial contact with me was always based on a Supersport ride, and even though our intention was not to compete in the class this year, it was a pretty easy decision for TAS Racing and our sponsors Tyco Security Products to make following Donington Park. Even though he has yet to ride our Championship-winning GSX-R600, PJ has ridden Assen before and it's a unique opportunity at an iconic circuit that we just couldn't overlook." |

| The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship debuted on the legendary Assen circuit this morning with Shane 'Shakey' Byrne returning from his shoulder injury to top the timesheets ahead of his Title Fighter rivals onboard the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki.
Byrne had done an initial run of 14 laps to test his shoulder and was feeling positive after the stint on track before heading back out to complete the session and toppling Title Fighter Alex Lowes, who put his previous experience of testing the World Championship Honda to use as he led until the closing minutes of the session.
Josh Brookes moved back up the order on his final stint on circuit to go third fastest on the Tyco Suzuki ahead of Luca Scassa on the leading Padgetts Honda who has extensive circuit knowledge from his time in the World Supersport Championship. Title Fighter and standings leader ahead of this weekend, Tommy Hill was fifth fastest ahead of Swan Yamaha team-mate Noriyuki Haga after leading the early stages of the session.
Supersonic BMW's Tommy Bridewell was seventh with the last of the Title Fighters, Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty in 13th position. On his debut with the Splitlath Redmond Racing team Jakub Smrz impressed in eighth ahead of Ian Lowry and Jon Kirkham.
MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, Assen, free practice one:

Title Fighter Alex Lowes fired a warning to his rivals this afternoon by ending the second session fastest at Assen as the WFR Honda rider waited until the closing moments to move ahead of Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes whilst defending champion Tommy Hill crashed out of the session unhurt.
Lowes had started the session strongly by setting the pace in the early stages ahead of Michael Laverty on the Samsung Honda; he continued to improve his times but ended the session fourth fastest as he bids to close the 21 point deficit. Australian Brookes moved ahead with just over ten minutes to go but Lowes hit back by edging 0.282 seconds ahead.
Shane 'Shakey' Byrne returning from his shoulder injury this weekend was third fastest on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki after topping the opening session, with Jakub Smrz again proving he has already got to grips with the Splitlath Redmond Racing Aprilia in fifth.
It was a nightmare session for the Swan Yamaha team as Tommy Hill crashed out unhurt at turn seven with just over ten minutes remaining to end the session ninth whilst Noriyuki Haga suffered a technical problem that sidelined him for the final half of the second free practice.
Buildbase BMW's Barry Burrell improved his pace to move inside the top ten in sixth ahead of Patric Muff and Luca Scassa on the leading Padgetts Honda as Ian Lowry crashed out unhurt. Chris Walker completed the top ten whilst the final Title Fighter Tommy Bridewell was twelfth fastest.

| Hill had been working hard on chassis and gearing settings and bounced back from yesterday's crash to be in contention for the pole position. In qualifying Hill set a time to put him fourth on the grid before a light rain shower ended his chances of pushing Alex Lowes for the first pole position at the circuit. Noriyuki Haga will start from the fourth row of the grid in fourteenth position.
Hill said:
"Every time we have gone out here this weekend we have been making chassis and gearing changes and it is a different feeling here with the bike compared to some of the previous circuits we have raced on. To be honest with the changing conditions I was pretty shocked to have done the time that I did. We have been working with the different tyre options and we had a good pace but the changeable conditions just meant we couldn't push that little bit extra today. We had some in reserve and we want to have a strong race tomorrow."
Haga said:
"I am confident on this circuit but today we did not get the right timing to go out on circuit; when we did the rain came and we couldn't push. I also made a mistake by using the same tyre at the start of the session, but tomorrow will be ok for us. We just need to have a good race now." |
