Success at Armoy for Farquhar
Ryan Farquhar battled his way through the difficult weather conditions at the Armoy 'Race of Legends' Road Races on Saturday to add two more wins to his haul for the season. The KMR Kawasaki rider took victory in the Supertwins and 450cc races whilst also claiming three more podiums thus ensuring another successful day's racing.


Conditions changed throughout the day as the rain came and went but Ryan opened his account with a comfortable victory in the Moto 450cc race, which was held in wet weather. The rain worsened for the Supersport 600cc race and after two warm up laps, the riders spoke to the officials and, with lots of standing water, the race was delayed. When it resumed, Ryan grabbed the holeshot and led for the opening three laps before the rain returned and so signalled to the officials, who had agreed to stop the race if conditions became unrideable. Michael Dunlop passed Ryan just before the line and, with another lap being completed, it was he was awarded the victory when the race was eventually stopped.

Next up for Ryan was the first Superbike race and, with conditions still wet, he opted to take out his 600cc machine once more. Despite being at a major disadvantage against the 1000cc machines, he led for the first two laps before being overhauled by Dunlop and Guy Martin but third was an excellent result given the horsepower deficit. Meanwhile, team-mate Jamie Hamilton took a solid eighth and the duo then went head to head in the Supertwins race. There was little between the two but it all went wrong when Hamilton tried to out-brake his team leader and he crashed out. That enabled Ryan to take the win from Adrian Archibald and Michael Sweeney.

The Grand Final was Ryan's last race of the day and he again went head to head with Dunlop, leading in the early stages before his younger rival found a way through. There was nothing separating the two until the closing few laps when backmarkers came into play and it was enough to allow Michael to edge out a gap and so Ryan had to settle for second at the chequered flag.

Speaking later, a pleased Ryan said; "It's been a challenging day with the ever-changing weather conditions but they improved as the day wore on and we all got some good races in. It was really wet at the beginning of the day, especially in the 600cc race where there was that much surface water, it simply wasn't safe to continue. The officials gave it some time to dry up and said if it started raining again, raise our hands. I did that and although the race win eventually went to Michael, I had no qualms finishing second on a race decided on safety grounds. With conditions still being far from ideal, I decided to take the 600 out for the Superbike race and I was pleased with third given the fact I was up against 1000cc bikes."

"The Supertwins race was going well for the team until Jamie crashed and I was lucky not to get caught up with him. Luckily he was ok but it's a real shame as the bike is pretty badly bent and there might not be enough time to get it repaired for the Ulster. I managed to hold on to the win and that just left the Grand Final where I had a great battle with Michael. The Superbike's about 95% there now and I'm just struggling to get the engine braking sorted but it was a real good race. It was a just a pity backmarkers came into play at the end as it would have been nice to have gone into the final lap with it all still to play for but I'm happy enough. I'm happy with the bike and I'm definitely going in the right direction so, overall, it's been a solid day."

Ryan now turns his attention to the Ulster Grand Prix, with the meeting taking place on the high-speed Dundrod circuit on August 8-11.

Tyco Suzuki riders Guy Martin and Conor Cummins took in Saturday’s Armoy Road Races in Northern Ireland as their final preparation for next month’s Ulster Grand Prix on August 11 at Dundrod. Inclement weather made conditions very difficult for all involved, with Martin taking second and third placed finishes in the two Superbike races and newcomer to the circuit, Conor Cummins, taking fourth and fifth placed finishes from the same two outings. Guy had led the opening Superbike race at the end of laps two and four but had to give best to hat-trick man on the day Michael Dunlop.

Martin also took fifth place in a shortened Supersport encounter [4 laps] due to a red flag situation for heavy rain with Cummins retiring in the opening laps after his helmet steamed up reducing vision to an unsafe level.

Despite the difficult conditions, team manager Philip Neill was more than complimentary of the organisers, saying: “The Armoy Road Races is a great event; it’s just a pity the weather played its part and made the day very difficult. In saying that, they cracked on through the schedule more than efficiently, and despite the difficult conditions it gave both our men another valuable outing before the Ulster in two week’s time.”

Michael réalise malgré sa blessure encore un beau week-end , de bon augure pour l 'UGP

“It was another good day and it’s nice to keep on winning on the big bike, The conditions were horrendous in the Supersport race but we got the win and I had a bit more than the other lads in the big races. I could see by the way that Ryan [Farquhar] and Guy [Martin] were riding that they were determined to beat me, but I just got my head down and was able to pull away from them.I didn’t expect to get the lap record in the big race because I was riding in a bit of pain with my back, but it sets us up nicely now for the Ulster Grand Prix.”

UN PREMIER APERCU DES ENGAGES

Finalement Gary Johnson sera aussi présent sur la Padgetts Honda

Le team Honda TT Legends ne sera pas présent car il y a une course du Championnat du Monde d'Endurance le même week end (Allemagne 8 Heures d'Oschersleben) donc exit John McGuinnesset Cameron Donald.

Le team Tyco Suzuki sera présent avec Guy Martin et Conor Cummins, ils espérent mettre l'UGP à leur palmarès.

Padgetts Honda sera présent avec Bruce Anstey (détenteur du record du tour), son coéquipier Gary Johnson est aussi de la partie, faisant l'impasse sur les 8 Heures d'Oschersleben au sein du team Honda TT Legends.

Bien sûr les frères Dunlop, William et Michael feront les quelques dizaines de kilomètres de leur domicile à la piste. William est cette année l'homme à battre en Supersport et Michael sort d'une Armoy Road Races superbe.

Ryan Farquhar fait une grande saison avec une énorme moisson de victoires, il sera accompagné au sein du team KMR Kawasaki par le jeune et talentueux pilote Jamie Hamilton.

Plus âgés mais toujours très performants on attendra les résultats de Ian Lougher et d'Adrian Archibald.

Le pilote de l'île de Man Dan Kneen sera lui aussi présent ainis que le l'australien David Johnson.

On retrouvera aussi des noms qui commencent à être connus dans la monde des courses sur routes et que l'on voit se battre maintenant pour rentrer dans le top 10: Dean Harrison, Dan Cooper, Russel Mountford (rentrés dans le top 10 au TT).

Ils devront se battre avec les pilotes irlandais que l'on a vu briller de nombreuses fois cette saison:Derek Sheils, Davy Morgan, John Burows, Michael Pearson.

D'autres pilotes étrangers viendront en découdre et notre Mig national sera de la partie.

ULSTER GRAND PRIX 2012 QUELQUES PRECISIONS

Troisième grande course sur route avec la North West 200 et le TT, l'Ulster Grand Prix se déroule en Irlande du Nord non loin de Belfast, près de Lisburn. Le circuit de Dundrod mesure 11.910 kilomètres, c'est le circuit de courses sur routes le plus rapide, le record a été établi en 2010 par Bruce Anstey en 3mn18s870 soit à la moyenne de 133.977 mph ou 215.55 kmh, le record de la course est également détenu par Bruce Anstey (2010) à 132.029 mph soit 212.43 kmh. En fait on regroupe sous le nom d'Ulster Grand Prix, 2 courses différentes se déroulant sur le même circuit la même semaine soit la Dundrod 150 et l'Ulster Grand Prix chacune ouverte à différentes catégories

Pour les 90 ans de l'Ulster Grand Prix on retrouvera bien sur tous les grands noms des courses sur routes: William et Michael Dunlop, Ryan Farquhar, Conor Cummins, Guy Martin, Bruce Anstey.... 13 pays sont représentés avec pas moins de 40 newcomers, un record depuis 11 ans.

Farqhuar n'est pas sure de participer aux courses SBK et STK. En revanche il sera bien la pour le Supertwins ou son jeune protégé Hamilton commence à lui faire des miseres depuis quelques courses. Si la météo ne vient pas perturbée le bon deroulement des courses , cela va être intéressant !!!

Pour Farquhar apparemment il n'est pas content de l'emplacement de son camion dans le paddock, raison pour laquelle il veut boycotter certaines courses. Jamie Hamilton progresse bien, ça devrais être un futur grand des courses sur routes. La météo annoncée n'est pas terrible pour la semaine, attendons de voir.

RYAN Farquhar will sit out the Superstock and Supersport races at Saturday’s McKinstry Skip Hire Ulster Grand Prix.

The KMR Kawasaki rider will instead concentrate on the Supertwin and Superbike events at the 90th anniversary meeting.

Farquhar yesterday confirmed he would compete in the Superbike class after initially toying with the idea of only riding his Kawasaki ER6 twin at Dundrod.

The 36-year-old won the inaugural Supertwin races at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT and is bidding to complete an international hat-trick in the class on Saturday.

He will also ride in the Supertwin and Superbike races at tomorrow’s Topaz Dundrod 150 meeting, which follows final practice for the UGP.

Farquhar said: “I want to try and get my Kawasaki Superbike sorted out and it will be a good opportunity to get a good bit of time on it.

“The first time I ever rode the bike was at the North West and I couldn’t get it to handle at the TT, so I parked it up.

“We made a massive improvement with it at Armoy although there are still things I want to try.

“It’s such a tough class and you’re up against so many good riders on good bikes, but it’s got to the stage now where you’ll never win a Superbike race on a ’stocker,” he added.

“I’m working away at the bike and we’ll take it as it comes on Saturday and I just want to go out and enjoy myself.”

Farquhar lost out in the first Supertwin race to the late Wayne Hamilton from Portadown in 2011 before bouncing back to win the second 650cc event.

He won this after Hamilton crashed out of contention while holding second place.

The vastly experienced road racer hasn’t been having it all his own way in the class this season, with his KMR Kawasaki team-mate and young protégé Jamie Hamilton emerging as a tough opponent.

Hamilton claimed a breakthrough victory at the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man last month and was chasing Farquhar hard until he crashed out at Armoy.

The Ballyclare rider’s participation in the class at Dundrod was in doubt due to the damage sustained to his Kawasaki ER6.

But the bike has been repaired in time for today’s practice and former British Superstock 600 champion Hamilton will ride in the Supertwin races plus the Superbike and Superstock events on a ZX-10.

“We’ve been working flat-out on Jamie’s bike and we should just about have it finished in time,” Farquhar said.

“I’d be surprised if he’s not up there challenging in the race.

“ But you never know who else might come through on the day in the Supertwin class.

“I’m not going out to break records at Dundrod because I’ve had a good year and I’m starting to wind things down,” added Farquhar.

Practice today started with the newcomers session which was under the control of the race instructors. The 30 minute saw two riders off but unhurtp and was then followed by a combined session for Supertwins and 125's. Times were as follows:

This session was followed by a 30 minute practice for the Dundrod National and Challenge races which was red flagged on the second lap after a rider came off at Tournagrough, suffering a suspected broke collar bone. On the restart the riders had just left the line when the red flags went out again with a rider off at the start of the Flying Kilo. This rider suffered a suspected broken leg and the session was postponed until later in the day.

Next up was the Superbikes and again the red flags were shown at the end of lap 1 with another rider off at the Hairpin. This rider was taken to hospital with suspected back injuries and Ryan Farquhar arrived back at the pits after getting a lift home when his Superbike expired. The session was restarted and the early leaders were the Dunlop brothers but Gary Johnson soon split the sending William down to 3rd. Guy Martin then set the fastest time with Stephen Thompson moving up to a good 5th place behind. As the flag was shown though Conor Cummins went fastest with a lap of 129.427 to take pole as Ansty also posted a fast lap to take 4th

Next session up was the Supersport bikes and the early pace setter was William Dunlop. While the riders behind him jockeyed for positions William firmly held on to his lead and when Ansty applied pressure to him, he upped the pace to hold on to his pole position

There were only 17 riders out in this session and the final superbike session was cancelled, once again due to the low sun.

Sorry for the lack of updates during the day but due to the failure of the Internet at Dundrod and the terrible telephone service we have been unable to provide a better service. Engineers hope that this problem will be resolved for tomorrow morning so we hope for a better day tomorrow.

Apart from this we had an eventful days practice at the UGP in glorious sunshine. Apparently all of the riders injured have suffered nothing more than broken bones and we wish them all a speedy recovery. The good weather is set to continue for the rest of the week and we hope that we have had our share of incidents for the next 3 days.

Aujourd'hui la météo est plutot bonne et la seance d'éssai SBK pour l'UGP a démarré , et cela roule déja beaucoup plus vite qu'hier !

Ce n'est pas forcément celui que l'on attendait , mais c'est bien Guy Martin qui a réalisé la pole position pour l'UGP (SBK) , il devance Michael et William Dunlop, suivi de Gary Johnson , Connor Cummins complète le TOP 5. Notre Mig national est classé 38 eme.

Pas le temps de souffler pour certains pilotes puisque la première séance qualifs des Supersport pour l'UGP était juste après , et William Dunlop confirme sa domination dans la catégorie devant Gary Johnson et son frere Michael , Bruce Anstey place la 2eme honda Padgetts dans le top 4 juste devant les 2 Suzuki Tyco de Martin et Cummins !

Michael Dunlop signalled his intentions for the weekend when he dominated the shortened Dundrod 150 Superbike race on Thursday afternoon. The McAdoo Racing Honda rider grabbed the lead on the first lap and immediately opened up a 1.5s lead and when the red flag came out on lap five, his lead over second placed Guy Martin was up to 3.3s.

"I'm struggling with my back when I'm walking around but on the bike it's not too bad," said Dunlop, as he hobbled to the podium. "The bike's working well although I've a bit of work to do with the front but the tryes were lovely and a great first lap gave me a good buffer. I did have a major moment at Quarterlands though when I ran onto the white line and my feet were off the pegs and allsorts but I managed to hold on and carry on."

Dunlop had opened up a sizeable gap by the end of the first lap and it was Conor Cummins who was in second just ahead of Gary Johnson, Martin and the second Padgetts Honda of Bruce Anstey. Second time around and the order was the same with the major moves coming from William Dunlop who was fighting his way through the pack after a poor start and had gone from 11th to 7th.

Martin had lapped at 132.863mph on lap two and had moved up to second place a lap later but Dunlop had gone quicker still at 133.375mph and his lead was now 2.3s. Johnson was in fourth and had dropped back considerably off the tail of Cummins but Dunlop was pressing ahead and going into lap five he'd added another second to his lead. Martin, Cummins, Johnson and Anstey were safe but a good dice was taking place further back with William Dunlop and Stephen Thompson battling it out for sixth.

However, as the leaders were half way round lap five, the red flag came out after Lee Vernon crashed heavily at Rock Bends and so the result was taken at the end of three laps. That meant Dunlop, Martin and Cummins occupied the podium positions with Johnson, Anstey and Thompson completing the top six. William Dunlop, Adrian Archibald, Dean Harrison and Ian Lougher completed the top ten with Harrison's best lap of 128.786mph edging him ever closer to Dan Kneen's fastest newcomer lap of 129.254mph.

"The Dundrod & District Motorcycle Club can confirm that Lee Vernon has sustained critical injuries following an incident during the Superbike race at the Dundrod 150 road races.

The nature and extent of his injuries are being assessed at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

Windsor-based Kiwi Bruce Anstey will awaken from a nine-week slumber to take in this week’s McKinstry Skip Hire Ulster Grand Prix — kicking off with the Dundrod 150 Races — and despite all the hype surrounding Michael Dunlop and a potential five-timer on Saturday the formbook can be thrown out the window.

His racing preparation model will not be found in any scientific handbook, and despite adding a bit of motocross to his repertoire this past 12 months, the former BMX champion literally just rolls up and races.

A lot has been said and written on his move to Padgett’s Honda at the end of the 2010 season, after what seemed like a lifetime under the auspices of Hector and Philip Neill at TAS Racing.

Everything comes to an end and despite tangible success on various branded Suzuki machinery with the Moneymore-based outfit, it would be fair to say that Bruce is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance in his career since joining Clive Padgett’s rainbow liveried set-up.

He comes to the Ulster Grand Prix not having raced a motorcycle since June 6 on the Isle of Man, but after his showing at Dundrod last season on Padgett’s machinery, taking a controversial Ulster Grand Prix Superbike victory from the second group on corrected time, the ever-smiling Kiwi would be happy to do it all again — in the very same format — on Saturday, should the opportunity present itself.

“I knew I had a good chance of the win last year, despite the problems in qualifying, but starting on the front of the second group was definitely an advantage for me,” said Anstey, who looking back on his victory added: “It gave me a clear run and I didn’t have to dice with anyone.

“I did come across some slower riders from the back of the first group towards the end, which held me up a bit, but we got the win,” he smiled.

Mass start racing is designed to take its winner from ‘first past the post’ or in the case of motorcycle racing, first to dip under the chequered flag.

But failing to qualifying in the ‘elite’ front group has turned out to be advantageous in recent times, as both Anstey and Michael Rutter (a winner at this year’s NW200 in similar circumstances) have shown, taking wins on corrected time.

It’s a loophole in the current rules that many feel needs addressed, arguably robbing the fans, who wait patiently in the Joey Dunlop Grandstand on the start-finish line at Dundrod, for the first man into view coming out of Quarry Bends as their winner.

Anstey, refuting the claim, said: “It is a great position to start from and I’d be happy to do it again, but no-one goes out to qualify in the second group.

“The best case scenario is qualify quickest in pole position; start from the front row and try to get away from the pack.”
